PHOENIX, ARIZONA (April 8, 2026) – At least five people were seriously injured in a Phoenix car accident at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Southern Avenue.
Phoenix police officials are saying that the collision took place around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Two vehicles were involved in an accident for undetermined reasons.
Three women, one man, and a male child were listed as the victims of the crash. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the victims.
All five were transported to the hospital in critical condition. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.
Drivers must use caution and drive at the appropriate speed to avoid collisions with other vehicles. According to Arizona Vehicle Code 28-701, “A person shall not drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the circumstances, conditions and actual and potential hazards then existing.” Other factors besides speed could contribute to a car accident.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting another vehicle, they could be liable for the accident in a civil claim. Depending on the facts of any case, there could be several liable parties for any car crash. In certain cases, a municipal entity could be liable for a collision if it was caused by a dangerous condition on public property. This may include situations where an intersection has an obstructed line of sight.
Car accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death across Arizona and the United States. According to the IIHS, “Although the U.S. population has grown continuously since the 1970s, the rate of crash deaths per 100,000 people in 2023 was 41% lower than it was in 1975, and the rate per 100 million miles traveled has declined 62%.” Many different injuries are associated with car accidents.
Many of the injuries associated with a car accident will not be obvious. This is why it is so important for victims to seek a thorough medical evaluation. After receiving treatment at the hospital, victims should also consider their legal options with an experienced personal injury attorney. An attorney can examine unique facts of your case so that you know where the options are.
