WHITTMANN, ARIZONA (April 24, 2026) – A 29-year-old veteran and soon-to-be father identified as Braeden Coleman has tragically died in a Whittmann semi-truck accident on US 60 near 211th Avenue.
Maricopa County officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Braeden Coleman was driving down the road when his vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer truck.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim. Despite life-saving efforts, Braeden Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
A full investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing at this time. You can help support the family of the victim through GoFundMe.
According to the online fundraiser, “Braeden was tragically taken from us in a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.  Braeden was truly the best of us. He was a devoted husband, a soon-to-be father, a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and Veteran. To know him was to love him.”
Truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid colliding with other vehicles in the roadway. Many of these collisions involve truck drivers that make dangerous turns. According to Arizona Vehicle Code 28-772, “The driver of a vehicle within an intersection intending to turn to the left shall yield the right-of-way to a vehicle that is approaching from the opposite direction and that is within the intersection or so close to the intersection as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Commercial trucks can be incredibly dangerous for several reasons.
If a truck driver makes a dangerous maneuver and enters into the path of another vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. The company that the truck driver was working for could be liable for the collision. As a general rule, employers can be liable for the negligent actions of their workers who were operating within the course of their job duties. A city could also be liable for a car accident if it was caused by a dangerous condition on public property. For example, an intersection may have an obstructed line of sight due to overgrown foliage.
Trucks account for a relatively small number of the total vehicles on the roadway, but they are involved in a disproportionately high number of fatal collisions. According to one study by the NHTSA, “there were approximately 120,000 fatal and injury crashes nationwide during the 33-month study period that involved at least one large truck; 141,000 large trucks were involved in those crashes. Each of the 963 LTCCS study cases was assigned a sampling weight, which allows for national estimates of total fatal and injury truck crashes during the study period.” Certain measures should be taken after any semi-truck accident.
Truck accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to involve situations where truck drivers are failing to abide by safety guidelines. Among other things, truck drivers must limit the number of hours they work in any given day or week. They must also take periodic rest breaks to prevent fatigue. Truck accidents can be highly complex. The factors that contribute to any collision could take place long before the actual event. It is vital that these incidents be properly investigated by an outside party. The family of any person who died in a truck accident is able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at The Law Offices of John Phebus extend our deepest condolences to the family of Braeden Coleman. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong for the sake of the victim’s family. Many questions remain unanswered at this time. What was the speed of the truck prior to the collision? What is the safety record of the company that owned this truck? What is the history of accidents at this particular intersection?
