SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA (April 28, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in a Scottsdale car accident near the intersection of 56th Street and Thomas Road.
Maricopa County officials are saying that the accident took place around 12:30 AM on Wednesday. A pedestrian was crossing the road when they were hit by a vehicle.
The force of the impact left them with serious injuries. Paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help the victim.
That person was taken to the hospital to receive treatment. The driver responsible for the collision did not remain at the scene and is currently being sought by the police.
A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.
Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. According to Arizona Vehicle Code 28-794, “Notwithstanding the provisions of this chapter every driver of a vehicle shall: 1. Exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian on any roadway. 2. Give warning by sounding the horn when necessary. 3. Exercise proper precaution on observing a child or a confused or incapacitated person on a roadway.” There are many different ways that a driver may have acted negligently prior to any collision.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway, this could be construed as negligence. In addition to civil liability, a driver may face criminal liability for an accident if they fled the scene of an injury collision. Drivers must remain at the scene of any car accident that causes injury and exchange insurance information with affected parties.
Many people are killed or seriously injured every year in preventable hit-and-run collisions. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “Pedestrians and cyclists are especially vulnerable. In fact, 1 in 4 pedestrians and nearly as many cyclists killed in crashes in 2023 were hit by a driver who fled the scene. They are frequently struck in darkness during late-night or early morning hours, when visibility is low and there may be no one nearby to call for help.” Certain actions should be taken after any pedestrian is injured in Arizona.
Pedestrians lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are much more likely to be seriously injured in the event of a crash. Sadly, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their care to avoid responsibility for any collision. This is why it is so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of a driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
We at The Law Offices of John Phebus extend our best wishes to the pedestrian injured in this collision. It is our sincere hope that they will be able to make a full recovery. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. The responsible driver should do the right thing and come forward.
