PHOENIX, ARIZONAÂ (April 22, 2026) – A male pedestrian was seriously injured in a Phoenix car accident by the intersection of 29th Avenue and Northern.
Maricopa County officials are saying that the accident took place around 2:30 a.m. on Monday. A truck was traveling down the road when it was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.
The victim was knocked to the ground and suffered major injuries. First responders rushed to the scene of the crash to receive treatment.
The pedestrian was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
All drivers in Arizona must use caution to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway. Pursuant to Arizona Vehicle Code 28-794, “Notwithstanding the provisions of this chapter every driver of a vehicle shall:  1. Exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian on any roadway.  2. Give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.  3. Exercise proper precaution on observing a child or a confused or incapacitated person on a roadway.” Drivers should take several actions to avoid hitting pedestrians.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway, this could be construed as negligence. Drivers must slow down to avoid hitting pedestrians even if they are outside of lawfully marked crosswalks. Even if a pedestrian is in the middle of the road, this does not relieve a driver of their duty to use care. Liability for a crash could also extend beyond any specific driver determined to be at fault, particularly if a truck or other vehicle was being used for some type of commercial purpose.
Pedestrians lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are substantially more likely to be seriously injured in the event of a crash. According to one study in the National Library of Medicine, “In 2004, there were 4,641 pedestrian deaths and over 70,000 injuries in the United States. Injury patterns vary depending on the age, gender and socioeconomic status of the individual.” What follows are some of the common injuries that tend to be associated with pedestrian collisions.
It can be difficult to know where to begin after any truck accident. Victims are often left with major injuries that impair their ability to work. They can also be left with high medical bills to treat those injuries. Unfortunately, negligent drivers and their insurance providers will almost never accept responsibility if they seriously injure a pedestrian. They are more likely to blame the victim for what happened. Any person injured due to the negligent actions of a truck driver may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
We at The Law Offices of John Phebus extend our best wishes to the victim of this pedestrian accident. It is our sincere hope that the victim will be able to make a full recovery. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what happened. Any person who may have more information about what took place should reach out to police.
