Arizona is no stranger to increased DUI enforcement over the holiday season. Just a few years ago, in 2013 the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety enlisted a special DUI task force during Thanksgiving all the way up until New Year’s Day. It was during this increased enforcement for the holidays, almost 4,400 people were arrested in Arizona on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Some of these arrests were even for Extreme DUI charges (over 1,000) as well as 450 for aggravated DUI charges. A whopping 81,934 people were pulled over during this initiative. The goal is obviously for the safety of everyone on the roads during Christmas and the holiday season in an effort to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities related to drunk driving.
As you can see, the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety does not hold back during the holidays when it comes to DUI enforcement. You should be extra cautious before deciding to drive after drinking. Remember, even though you may think you are okay to drive your blood alcohol may say otherwise. It is always better to error on the side of caution. Do not drink and drive and get a sober driver, cab or other alternative transportation.
However, if you or a loved one does get pulled over and charged with a DUI-related charge this Christmas, it is imperative to your situation that you seek experienced criminal defense immediately. Reach out to a lawyer who has successfully defended clients in the past and seeks results that matter.
