It feels like winter just got over and spring just began. But with April already here it means Memorial Day is just around the corner. Summer always comes upon us faster than we think it will. However, in Arizona this means increased DUI enforcement. As you and your family prepare for some Memorial Day weekend fun to celebrate the beginning of summer, keep in mind that Arizona’s DUI Task Force will be on patrol.
Last year, the DUI Task Force ran from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend all the way through the following Tuesday. This included both saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints all across Arizona. The “Impaired Driving Deployment” patrol last year was made up of over seventy law enforcement agencies across the state. In 2014, the task force arrested 495 people over the Memorial Day weekend (all DUI-related charges).
With the likelihood of increased DUI enforcement in Arizona, it is important to be extra vigilant when planning your Memorial Day weekend. Planning on a sober driver or utilizing a taxi, Uber or other driving service is an especially good idea. Do not think that you are immune to the extra DUI patrol as well as sobriety checkpoints.
DUI and aggravated DUI charges in Arizona have very serious penalties. This can include jail time, license suspension and serious fines. Do not take any chances and plan on a sober ride this Memorial Day weekend. For more information about DUI penalties in Arizona, talk to an experienced DUI defense lawyer.
