There are two major reasons why underage drivers should be extra careful on the roads this holiday season. They are: 1) for their safety and 2) for their future. As to the first major reason, too many people are killed on Arizona roadways each year. Many are caused by or related to alcohol.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, in 2003 there were 1,120 traffic fatalities. Out of these deaths forty-two percent were alcohol-related. Do not become one of these statistics and pay extra attention for drunk drivers on Arizona roads and highways this Thanksgiving and holiday season.
Furthermore, think twice before not only consuming alcohol under the age of twenty-one but also driving under the influence of alcohol. This leads to the second major reason to be smart and not drink and drive: your future.
Don’t Ruin Your Future By Becoming Another Underage Drinking Statistic
Too often minors think they are invincible and the rules don’t apply to them. Well, here is the truth whether you like it or not: you are not immune to the laws of Arizona. This includes no drinking alcohol unless you are twenty-one years or older. Otherwise there are serious and harsh penalties. Arizona is especially strict when it comes to under 21 alcohol violations and DUIs.
Just a first-time offense could mean mandatory license suspension, fines, surcharges, probation, community service and the worst: a class 1 misdemeanor on your record for life. This means that your future could be ruined by one mistake. Not the second or third if you think you will get another chance. The very first mistake. For the rest of your life you will have this on your record. Getting scholarships, into college or getting a good job could all be negatively impacted by a single choice.
So when you go out with your friends this holiday season, be smart and think about your future and safety first.
